Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam

The Directorate of Medical Education, Training and Research, Assam was established in the year 1984 under the control of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Assam.

The Directorate of Medical Education, Assam is entrusted with the task of generating human resources like Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists and other Health personnel to meet the growing needs of not only  the state but the entire North Eastern Region.

Medical and Para-Medical Education are important components of the Health Department. It is entrusted with the task of generating Human Resources like Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists and other Health personnel to meet the growing needs of the state including the entire North Eastern region. The hospitals and the colleges provide necessary services to the ailing people of the State and the neighboring North Eastern State.

An Introduction of

Srimanta Sankaradeva university of health sciences

“Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences” is a full-fledged Government University of Assam. “Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences” was established by Government of Assam in 2009 as per Act "The Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Act, 2007". The Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences is the first Health University in the North-East Region. As the University is located in the heart of Guwahati city (Assam, India), it is well connected by Air, Rail and Surface Transport.

All medical Colleges of Assam including Gauhati Medical College (GMC), Assam Medical College (AMC) , Silchar Medical College (SMC), Jorhat Medical College (JMC), Tezpur Medical College (TMC) and Barpeta Medical College (FAAMC) are running their courses under this University only. In one line, the entire medical education (99%) of our state (Assam) is now running under this University only.
